Employment Specialists

Northstar Academy is excited to launch Northstar Career Services, an employment service organization dedicated to the self-determination of our young adult clients. We recognize and celebrate the critical role that competitive employment plays in providing both the practical means and the professional engagement necessary for people of all abilities to engage in their communities and to determine the direction of their lives.

Northstar Academy is seeking part-time Employment Specialists to provide supported employment services to our young adult clients seeking competitive employment opportunities. The Employment Specialists will work with clients who have completed or who are in the process of completing career training at Northstar Career Academy. Employment Specialists work directly with clients and their families to develop and leverage relationships with community employers to build opportunities for our talented clientele. This position would be outside of the school day. The work hours would be determined based on the client’s work schedule and individual needs. Compensation is hourly and determined based on skills and experience. Background check is required.

Educational Requirements – a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Vocational Rehabilitation, Special Education, or related field preferred.

$18.00 – 25.00 per hour

Substitute Teacher

Northstar Academy is a private non-profit day school for students with disabilities, ages 5-21. Northstar is fully committed to providing an individualized education to a diverse population of students. We are currently seeking applicants for substitute teacher positions.  Applicants must be 18 years old, hold at least a high school diploma, have two (2) years of full time postsecondary education or experience with children with disabilities and understand the school’s policy and procedures.

The substitute teacher will be expected to provide individualized instruction, developed by the classroom, based on the needs of the student either individually and/or in groups; observe and evaluate student performance in academics and social skill development; follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students; maintain effective classroom management strategies; perform other duties as requested by Head/Assistant Head of School.
